Super Heroes

This group of six gifted heroes really are super, and they fight for the cause of good. Mostly for the cause of good. Some of them. Some. Ok, ignore the halfling.

The set was initially conceived and designed by Ville Rihtamo and Antti Kostiainen. After being given the go-ahead, they came back with designs for development. In the end, we chose pieces in the 100-150 point range (again, its best to ignore the halfling). This created some cool options for both 200 play while allowing character-class party-like options for Epic play. I especially see options in 500 epic play.

While initially seeming weaker than some of the pseudo-epic options in SKT, in time I think you will see that these miniatures are actually quite, quite good. (do not ignore the halfling).
Let's face it - most of them have very good keywords.

Have a look:

EPIC StarterI.

The map that comes with the figures creates more of a conundrum, as the art is not as tightly defined as we normally require. However, I'd really like to have the map be legal.
More on that, soon....

Hopefully all of these release notes are obvious from card text, but we include them just for clarity. Feel free to share your thoughts or questions!

Epic Starter Icons - Release Notes
General
For each creature in this set except Lehto, there is a lower-level Unique version with the same name, from the initial release of this starter set. Only one copy of each Unique named creature may be included in a warband.

Pieni
Call in a Favor: Remember that conditions are standard collections of effects (e.g. Dazed), listed in the rulebook or defined by card text with the word "condition."

Vasara
Stonestep: Remember that Vasara must also be able to see the ending location of the teleport, in addition to it being adjacent to a wall.
A square is adjacent to a wall if any part of the square or gridlines (including a corner) contain a wall.

Jaristan
The Horde: The ally must be Human AND Primal to get the benefit.

Lehto
Wind in the Willows: If a creature occupies forest terrain, it also counts as being adjacent to forest terrain.

Perfect Caster: If Lehto has Moon Elf Fighter as an ally and the Moon Elf uses the CP to give Elf allies +2/+5, Perfect Caster does not increase to 15 damage, since it's not an attack.

CP 2: triggers when the attack hits, but the target only becomes Helpless when damage resolves. Therefore, Lehto's attack will not be an automatic critical. The original attack needs to get past conceal (if any) before the trigger to use CP 2 is satisfied.

I was not interested in this starter, but these stats made me buy it..

Not sure which one of heroes wil be tested as first, but I see 2-3 possible winners.

Great work!

Correct - different miniature sculpt, different card name. The line at the bottom of the card tells you which miniature it is legal with.

Character names were kept to keep with the theme of "leveling up".

It would be great if tried found a way to make that map legal as well! It's a nice map.

This is a great Chritmas present for our community - thank you very much Dwayne, Ira, Antti and Ville.
I have thought a bit about the "Super Heroes" and done some "tests in my mind" - and I think the pieces are well done regarding the power level . They also bring new design elements like the minor basic attacks which I really like.

Some comments:

Jousimies: A Super Archer, reminds me of the DDM 1 Epic Storm Archer. Trick Shot is a great design idea! Only disadvantage is the limited range of Snapshot.

Tulipala: Excellent Super Pyromancer, quite fragile.

Pieni: Unlimited use of Blackjack makes him maybe the most powerful Super Hero. Only pieces with blindsight may stop him....

Vasara: Good Dwarven Supertank.

Jaristan: The other superpowerful Super Hero. 180 HP, does easily 95 damage/round.

Lehto: Cool abilities, in my opinion a bit weak.

Overall great work, I will definitely play them.

Lehto is a bit weak, particularly on maps with no forest. But Lehto can do everything, and with very cheap support in the form of a beast, is quite likely to be able to destroy many of the others in this set.

If you are within 18 squares of Lehto, you are in imminent danger. I believe Lehto will change the Epic metagame completely.

Tried, I thought about it and I agree - with Beast support Letho can be very strong. Even in 200 - pair with him some Hunting Cougars and a Wild Elf Warsinger and the Cougars will do 60 autodamage...

Not necessarily only 60, if you time it correctly, acting late in the round against a vulnerable target.
If you win initiative the next round, the cougar runs away and recharges the same helpless foe.

Against Jaristan, for example, the original Lehto attack (on charge) in your scenario does 35 damage, and then the cougar may do 120 more.

But if you have a griffon positioned too, you might be able to do a LOT of damage, without requiring that you win initiative.

I'll leave it to you to optimize.

With the exception of Lehto, these epic characters share the same "character" name as the unique characters in the starter set. Are they treated as the same for the purposes of warband building (i.e. can only have one dwarf named "Vasara" in a warband, either the starter or the epic version, but not both)?

Yes, only one of the same name in a warband like Drizzt, Snig, Strahd, etc.

Was Lehto's Firestorm supposed to be fire damage or is it untyped damage by intent?

Fire damage. I'll fix it soon-ish...
