Euros and GenCon Epic Promos

GenCon is upon us, and I wanted to share the new Promo statted figures with everyone that I first shared with the European players. The stats are for a pair of classic older figures that simply didn't quite make the cut (no pun intended, Bladebearer...)

There are two figures, and both are good in themed warbands. The Epic Bladebearer's shiny flashing blades deflect beams (especially those that would not otherwise cause damage) and small missiles. This particular 'Martial' artist is a Tasmanian Devil of a dude, capable of cutting up those around him and exhibiting surprising mobility on a battle field - cutting all up and setting up his own charge in the mean time. But he's no Goblin, so don't look to buff him in the typical ways. No, he's far more likely to Buff other hobgoblins in his troop. He's just that kind of dude.

The Kobold Champ, though - at 47 points this is a Kobold that all the others talk about. For now, Meepo is dethroned as ranking Kobold (until we write up his Epic lycanthopishness). But EKC - he's a true champion now. He leads ambushes and raids, squeezing through nooks and cracks in what is otherwise a seemingly solid wall (but its not!). He inspires his kobold troops to speed as well, and he himself basks in their adoration. The more watching him, the happier he is. Definitely, we have found the 'Spartacus' of Koboldom.

I even considered making him unique, because, I mean, how may super-kobolds are there?
But my codevelopers so loved him and saw potential for him in pairs or groups of three. They insisted that we leave him a non-Unique.

And so, Epic Kobold, I dedicate you to Kobold Quarterly, a very good RPG installment and an excellent reason to elevate the Kobold from lowly status to a new status we call 'fun.'
The stat cards are Here , for your perusal.

I like the bladebearer, definitely going to include him in a warband sometime. Not so sure about the kobold champion. I mean, it's a very nice miniature but a bit of a teamplayer/ support champion and I don't really know which kobolds to put next to him. More kobold champions might work, but for 47 points each they don't do enough damage. The whole conceal 11, supershifty and sneak attack 10 combination might make up for that, but I'm not sure yet. Nice design though Smile

have you tried putting two of these with a deep dragon, with other Kobolds sprinkled in just to give attack bonuses? Plays a bit like ambush drake bands, but can actually ambush the ambush drake.

Hmm, I missed the stealth, kinda silly if you consider my last warband Laughing out loud

An interesting idea, still not convinced (won't replace Lolth for 2 of them;)) but it might work. Not that good vs ambush drakes though, without sneak attack it's still not enough damage. You'll need all 4 boosted attacks to kill one ambush drake.

Thanks!!!

I'm huge supporter of breathing life to old figures. All the more given the prices of the new ones (which I do somewhat understand). At this point I believe it is essential in bringing back or keeping people that have played DDM in the past - to find use for the figures already owned.

The items have made many old figures work and these "epic" stats work even better (ease of use is important to many casual players)!

Thank you for these, this is a great way of making older miniatures more useful without having to remake their original cards.

It will be great if we see more of these in the future!

Does this mean, that the older stats for these miniatures are no longer legal?

Hey Gloom Demon, the two new cards include "Epic" in their names and they are higher point cost versions of the old cards, hence the old cards keep their legality and can be used in addition to the new ones.
