Elemental Evil: The Iconic Adventure Continues...

This is the end of 2015, the seventh year of Guild-run minis. And with the end of this year, we will release the final set of stats from the 2015 Elemental Evils set. Seems a fitting end to the year, even as we look forward to cool things in 2016...

Elemental Evils is an iconic D&D module, and we hope this will prove to be an Iconic set. Whether you were hoping for a playable titan, like the Solar Angel, or for weird new support pieces, like the Dwarfbred Griffon, or new hope to lead your Orc army (I am looking at you, you clever two-headed villain, I mean, monster), you will find it here. You will also find an interesting champion for the undead, (some of which can now stalk as a pack) a champion that is an anti-champion, the new cheapest champion available in the game (and he comes from Wild), and many new cool dragons. Of course, all champions.

As you'd expect, we also have a lot of elemental evil here. We tried to make the elementals quite cool, while retaining clear flavor of their origins. We tried to do the same for their human minions - all of whom are in the 15 point zone and quite competitive. The set is not quite as balanced for sealed as the Tyranny of Dragons was, largely because it has a little more hit or miss synergies. But it is still a lot of fun! Overall, we think it should be a lot of fun to play.

Let us know your thoughts, here in the comment section or in the forums.
And if you want to think about design start thinking about designing demons for an upcoming contest...

Happy new year, everyone!

PS - You can find the set Here

Just to ensure everyone is on the same page, I've also included a few rule clarifications that are hopefully obvious from the text. Enjoy, and happy new year!

Ghoul Stalker
- Chosen Prey power makes that enemy the Chosen Prey.

- All Ghoul Stalkers get the benefits against that Chosen Prey.

- Once the Chosen Prey is no longer an enemy (most likely because it was destroyed), another Ghoul Stalker can pick a new Chosen Prey.

- If both players have Ghoul Stalkers in their warband, each player can have a Chosen Prey enemy.

Gold Dwarf Guard
- If the enemy chooses the Fight option in Hail a Worthy Foe, the enemy is Immobilized until the end of its next turn, as usual when getting a condition without a specified ending duration.

Moon Elf Ranger, Gnoll Fighter
- CP 2: If there's no adjacent beast ally, CP 2 fizzles and the champion takes the hit normally.

Earth Genasi Fighter
- Forest, river, spike stone, etc. terrain doesn't count as difficult terrain. Only count difficult terrain with the triangle icon.

- Creatures are adjacent to squares they occupy. So if a creature occupies difficult terrain, it will trigger Earthsmite.

Evil Fire Elemental, Fire Myrmidon, Salamander Evoker
- Aquaphobe: "enters river terrain" means each square of river terrain that the creature didn't previously occupy.

- If a large creature enters multiple river squares simultaneously, it will satisfy the Aquaphobe trigger multiple times, but due to the duplicate effects rule, the creature will only be affected once, taking 5 damage total.

Basilisk Brute
- Stone: it doesn't matter how the enemy originally got the Immobilized condition, as long as the triggers for the Stone power are met when it's used.

oops - for earth genasi - all difficult terrain will likely count - it gets complicated with things like stable footing otherwise. But that's ok if the piece becomes just a bit better....

and remember for aquaphobe - terrain can never cause more than 20 damage in one turn...

Thank you for posting this, and all of you for your hard work in developing these.

I especially like the Dwarfbred Griffon, Wight Barrowlord and Brutal Ogre Overlord.

I do question why some of the Beasts were not Magical Beasts instead, and why the Black Dragon Harasser is Aquatic.

I feel that not making the Hieracosphinx a mount of some sort (Orc?) was a missed opportunity, but mostly from a role-playing perspective.

Great thoughts.

I'm trying to limit the number of magical beasts overall, as the are relegated to few champion effects. So, if it can reasonably be a beast, I try to push it that way.

Black dragon is aquatic to be in line with its capacity to breath water, dwell in swamps, etc. Others have lacked this, but given that this is the elemental evil set, we wanted to squarely align it with water.

I personally didn't think sphinxes would allow a mount... but that might be just me.

What is the significance pf the "invisible" creatures?

I don't think I understand the question, exactly. If you mean the invisible miniatures, they are simply extra miniatures that can be used as proxies (legally).

Fantastic, thank you for all your hard work! I like the implementation of hybrid creatures like the White Dragon Icefiend.

The Ettin seems to be one of the creatures that works well only if you own older miniatures, as all the orcs in the Icons of the Realms so far cost above 20 points.

Many interesting cards in here to think strategies for, i can't wait to see what you will have in store for the Rage of Demons set!

Goody goody!

Thanks to the designers, Tried and Ira I know of, are there others that can (and wish) to be named, so as to address my thanks by name (or handle)?

Quickly, I like the flavor of many of the pieces. The four evil elementals will perhaps allow use of these pieces? They certainly look interesting. I love elementals and I've been trying to put some into my warbands, I've only managed to use the large water elemental up to now, I find the others too underpowered to fit into even my under-achieving warbands Smile But now, these new four ones will perhaps make the cut? I like that they have interesting and original powers, as far as elementals go it's rare (or rarer).

The black dragon harasser looks cool. Too bad for its low defenses, but its rechargeable line 8 attack certainly makes me consider using it.

Splendid beast item could see some use (hunting cougar I'm looking at you).

I'll have to look this over. Looking forward to the new set being included in the web tool or Pat Lynch's tool, so that I can start using it Smile

Note that I just uploaded a slightly updated version of the ElementalEvils.pdf file, in case you already downloaded it. The changes are:

Fire Snake = fixed size (should be size Small, not Medium)
Rampaging Owlbear = fixed typo in Ignores Death power (should be "instead" not "insead")
Solar Angel = fixed typo in bloodied value (should be 50, not 20).

Thanks!

Some very interesting builds I can see there - just hope someone can add these and the magic items to the warband builder... that would be yummy!

This is only for the new solar - at least in competitive play.
for a fun game at home, you can of course proxy it!

I have been playing Elemental Evil for so many years that I have lost track of time. Sometimes I use superiorpapers promo code to get through the difficult phases by getting more coins and powers. However, this is an addictive game and I love it so much.
