All the Rage....

Its been a long road.

There have been contests, revisions, back and forth with designers. There have been previews, and the work is not yet done, because two pieces are not yet released. (they are coming in the solo monsters set beta next weekend). Lots of interactions here. But all the pieces are playworthy, or close to it, and I think this could even be a favored set for sealed.

In the end, I think you will agree it is a very strong SET.
Enough said, already,
Go play.

Cool. I like the Quasit Spotter ability, very evocative.

I'll read on Smile

Hmm Troll Scrag. Can make 3 attacks per round, if it can reach an opponent with a move action, for a total of 45 damage at +14/15 atk bonus. Pretty good for a 32 point piece. It has low defenses (even with Aquatic Mercenary) and OK HPs, but the damage output appears interesting and certainly has be thinking about trying him out in a warband.

I like the Human Wizard. Resist Energy seems pretty good IMO. Versatile. The Fork Lightning seems strong also, I've always preferred lines to just about any other AoE attack. This should offer good battle field control, to avoid him catching as many as 4 opponents with this (rechargeable) attack.

Whoa - lots to take in. What a brilliant set!
Thanks for all the hard work!

There are so many nice ideas in this one it's hard to point out just 1-3 favourites. Maybe after a third read... no, I'll take that back. The pole position is Insane Beholder's to lose, concept-wise!
Laughing out loud
Also extra kudos for really great-looking Roper and item-munching Xorn, to name a couple.

Grimlock Berserker seems to not have a faction.

Thanks again!

Tried and the rest of the Design Team: Thank you, thank you! So far, nothing looks really broken, but yet lots of interesting pieces to shake up the meta. Goal accomplished.

Good catch on the Grimlock's faction! I updated the file to fix that. Thanks! Also, I added the file to the comprehensive download list that I maintain. I hope to get these added to webcard before GenCon. I'll keep you all posted. Also, here are some Release Notes for this set.

Release Notes

Derro Maniac
Mad Fascination with the Number 11:
Use when a player rolls a natural 11 on an attack: ...

If a creature rolls multiple d20 and uses only the highest result to make a single attack (like 4d20 for Tentacles), only the highest result is the one that's used for this trigger. If a creature rolls d20 to determine which type of attack is made (e.g. Insane Beholder, Wild Mage, etc.), that doesn't cause this ability to trigger, only the attack roll itself.

Kuo-Toa Archpriest
CP 1:
Use at start of round: Enemies gain Vulnerable 5 Lightning until end of round.

If a creature has both Vulnerable and Resist Lightning, it applies Resist first, and then if any damage remains, it will take bonus damage from the Vulnerable effect (per the standard rules).

Noble Djinn
CP 2:
Use when an ally ends a turn: Place that ally in a victory area.

Lidda's Fool's Hope only gets credit for the final victory area where she ends up, since CP 2 resolves before Lidda has actually ended her turn (due to the "when" in the trigger condition of CP 2).

Xorn Connoisseur:
Eat Item

Any lasting item effect (e.g. Sirokan's Seventh Sigil) continues to stay in effect even after the item is destroyed.

Clacker, Hook Horror
Pech Inside:
Use when an ally within 2 squares is hit by a Melee Attack attack that would destroy it:

Either player may use any number of effects during the "hit" timing window to modify damage. If that damage, when applied to the ally in the "apply damage" step, would destroy the ally, then the Pech Inside trigger is met. Pech Inside's trigger cannot consider bonus damage or other powers that may or may not be triggered and used during the "apply damage" step.

For example, the Dwarf Battlemaster's power is used during the "hit" window, it could be added, and then Pech Inside could trigger.

Conversely, the Mountain Troll's Regeneration power is used during the "apply damage" step, before damage resolves. If the Mountain Troll has 10 HP remaining and is hit by an attack that does 10 damage, Pech Inside can be triggered, even though Regeneration might be triggered and Mountain Troll might not actually be destroyed. In summary, only look at the actual damage being dealt within the "hit" window, before reaching the apply damage step, to determine if Pech Inside can be triggered.

If the Melee Attack attack does damage on miss, the ally could still be destroyed by the attack, even after Pech Inside is triggered. The effects of Pech Inside would be applied (missed attack, slide the ally, etc.), but then the damage effects from the miss would still apply.

Copper Dragon Trader
Swindle:
Use when an adjacent enemy scores VP from occupying a victory area: ...

- Assuming a standard game format like Assault, Arena, or Gladiator, a player chooses 1 of his/her creatures in a victory area, and that creature scores for the round.
- If the enemy has the Buried Dragon Hoard item (score double VPs for occupying a victory area), they would get 20 VP in a 200 point game, and the Swindle would generate 20 VP as well (assuming the Swindle roll is 10-20).
- Other powers that grant VP can only be Swindled if they require the enemy to occupy a victory area.

Insane Beholder
Eye Rays

- You must make all the attacks rolled, if possible.
- You see the result of the first attack before deciding on the target of the second attack. If you roll 3 different attacks, you can make the first attack, and then decide which attack will be resolved second.
- For attack powers with various attack options, the game tracks those attacks as a concatenation of the two names, e.g. Eye Rays: Rot & Slow (not that anything currently printed cares about this distinction.)

A great set, gives many figures with interesting mechanics, new ideas and feats that fit the "theme" or "nature" of the according piece. Even some of the low pointers like the Goblin Archer bring interesting options. Tried and Ira - thank you very much!

One other tidbit that might be fun: when we were trying to balance the Insane Beholder, I created a simulation to model it. You can take a look here: http://irafay.com/beholder.php

Enjoy!

You're not the only one. It was working properly yesterday, but maybe Ira is adding the faction to the Grimlock right now while it's down.

Fantastic work; wish I had the time, money and space to continue playing.

Is there a place for possible typos/errors?

Laurian minii, considering its forest terrain requiring abilities is the word missing from keen senses?

Keen Senses: Move action: Until end of turn, terrain does not block this creature’s line of sight.

If not, the sentence needs cleaning up as open to interpretation/argument.

If already noted and have missed the comment, apologies.

I think Keen Senses is clear: It gives line of sight through all kind of terrain - but to attack you also need line of effect. So with Keen Senses you can see through walls but not attack - because line of effect is blocked. That is the difference to Elf Arcane Archers Phase Arrow. So basically Keen Senses gives the opportunity to see and attack through forest and smoke terrain.

I'm also unsure what part of Keen Senses you believe to be unclear, @bugging_bear? Perhaps there is something I do not see?

@Laurian: I do not believe that walls count as terrain. See rules p.18 where walls are defined; and p. 19-20 where terrain is distincly defined and does not include walls. I agree with you that Keen Senses
would work to allow shooting through forest or smoke terrain.

This brings up the one situation that is not clear, to me: what about secret doors? Secret doors are defined as terrain, but per the rules they are "treated as walls". So does Keen Senses allow Laurian (Wood Elf Hero, not the forum poster Smile ) to shoot through unoccupied secret doors?

My interpretation is that he should not be able to do so, from a flavor standpoint. If he can't shoot through walls, he can't shoot through doors. But I'm unsure if the rules support this interpretation, because here the specific rules text both defines secret doors as terrain and as walls.

Perhaps it's just me and the way I'm reading the sentence. As I read it, I feel that it's a bit abrupt, as though something is missing from in front of the word terrain. For example, forest terrain, blocking terrain, smoke terrain.

I want to ask, Red Dracolich is not dragon? This is typo or reason? ty
