Calling out Koen!

This forum ain't big enough for the two of us! Smile

As I mentioned in the other thread I would like to arrange a match. If you are in the Netherlands it looks like you are +6 hours from me. Would you prefer a weekday or weekend match?

I was thinking:

Weekdays:
6 pm EST would be midnight your time if you are a late owl.

2 am EST for 8 AM your time if you prefer a an early game

Weekends:
Pretty much any time can work for me with a few weeks notice.

Format: 200 Assault Standard
game played on vassal with Skype or text.

I'm also going to set up a league tournament. I was thinking 4 rounds over 4 weeks and each pairing would have 1 week to meet up and report.

How about a saturday or sunday evening (my time)? that would be afternoon for you, right?

Re: 1 week for the match, I'm playing asynchronously with skyscraper right now via roll20.net, and I'm not sure that 1 week would be enough, even for an arena match (which is what we're playing). You might consider a slightly longer time limit for each game.

Vassal games do take a bit longer. We used to play 80 minute matches or to 7-8 rounds or so. I wouldn't want to do a play by post like Roll2.net. That does not sound fun at all.

Sunday should work for me but let me check with the wife to make sure she didn't make any plans I can't think of. Will post back soon.

I'd like to try it out also, my main concern is being able to find the time within a single week to play a game (yes, my schedule can be difficult). When the tournament details are up and subscriptions are taken in, I'll see if I can join depending on the tournament details.

Actuallly, it's pretty fun. I would agree with you that the best mode of playing is in person over a map with minis (and, dare I add, a beer).

This said, play by post remains interesting when real-time games in person are not possible.

Ira and I just finished a game and I like the format enough to play another. I believe he feels the same as we are setting up another game shortly.

I would agree however that this format is not optimal for tournaments.

I've played a long D&D campaign in play by post format. It honeslty was a blast. Very different than playing in person. I'd say that, for DDM like for D&D, if your expectations are that both game formats are equivalent, you're in for a disappointment. If you're ready to accept the slow pace of PbP, however, there is no reason not to have fun.

I should be free between 1 and 4 PM on Sunday which would be 7 and 11 pm your time. Will that work?

This sunday could work. Only problem is that my wife won't be home so I'll have to put my son to bed myself before I can play. That would be around 8:30.

so 2:30 to 3 my time? that works. Sending you a private message with my skype, email and such.

We played the match today. It was a very close match (down to the last few rolls) but I pulled the win at the very end. Final score was probably 220ish to 185.

Nice! What warbands did you use?

Also, do you have a link to Vassal download and the vassal module? Did you find that it worked well for you?

I've been enjoying Roll20.net, but it requires a bit of setup.

Would love to have been a fly on the wall for this match. Congratulations Brad! Our unofficial Unified Champ!

Please compose a report while it's still fresh on your mind. I love reading the round-by-round stuff.

Thanks.

Yes, a win becomes a true win once the winner writes the report Wink

I actually remembered to make a log. I'll add that when I'm home again.
