Total Re...paint

Just to share my joy for an "achievement" of sorts: I finished a project I've been working on... sometimes feverishly, sometimes just "planning on continuing when I have time"... but FINALLY, I got at least one of each figure from Harbinger through Icons of the Realms Starter repainted or the base worked on.

I had painted some before, but it really started as a therapy when I lost most of my then-sizeable collection in late 2009. I never really thought about painting them ALL, though (didn't even have them all for a long while). Did a lot of prices for tournaments, some of which I replicated this autumn to have one of my own as well. Actually, I had kind of given up, but a couple of years ago my daughters (now 10 and 12), after trying now and then, really got excited about painting and brought me back along; it was ok to spend that time painting since we got to do it together and have a good time, feeding of each other's ideas. They're actually very creative - sometimes a lot more so than I am.

Also, contributing to getting it done: I sleep very little sometimes. Not by choice, but anyway.

Sure, some of the repaints are mere touch-ups, but most are genuine repaints. With all the Icons of the Realms halfway through ready as well, that's about 1400 different sculpts painted (with multiples included, I think I'm around 2000 now). Until last year I mostly used them for RPG, but now, since I DM very little, it's mostly for DDM. Sometimes, for bigger tournaments, I brought the regular ones with me, too, just in a case it bothered my opponent that nothing looked "right". Never happened, though, since I obviously don't use figures with changed weapons or anything when playing DDM.

Anyway, just wanted to share this - in a best case to encourage someone to revisit or pick up painting! It's great as is, a creative relaxing session, and - at least for myself - even better if you have company. Also, one positive is the fact that the recent flying figures stand much more firmly if you work on the base; adding rocky terrain (=rocks) on the base makes them not fall so easily (cases in point: medium dragons on poles, some of the large dragons on poles). Just some small stones and glue - even helps some older ones like the Archfiends Vrock, Giants of Legend Minotaur, War of the Dragon Queen Griffon Cavalry (paint it as a cloud like in the promo pics) etc. As nice as the flying dragons of Wizkids era look like, some of them really need help standing up (=heaviness in base) in use. If I may suggest, start with Blue Dragon Bravado, Green Dragon Bravura, Copper Dragon Trader, Black Dragon Harasser, White Dragon Icefiend and Red Dragon Raider.

Oh, and the last one finished was Flesh Golem (Aberrations). Wink

Sorry about the pic. I don't know why it isn't working. (edit: removed it, see below) I'll have to try another way. I'll also take some more in a good light when I have the time.

I posted some pictures here:

Hopefully that works for those interested? No way I'm getting them all sorted for photo right now - sorry! - but maybe it'll happen at some point when there's a reason to get them all out of the storage.

Thanks Ira and GF! Smile

Tried: I do hope you'll have the time at some point. Having seen a picture or two of your repaints in the past (prizes, I believe), you really have the skill. I can imagine what you're doing for all of us eats up an enormous amount of time - once again, a tip of my hat.

Yep.
