Rage of Demons Spoilers begin...

We are hard at work developing some of the designs for Rage of Demons. I've got a pretty good feel for what I want from this set. Its strange to say I want to add new options while pushing existing limits, but that's what we hope to do with this set. I have to say, I liked many of the designs posted. They can't be published as is, but today we will look at one that comes close to the original contest design.

Moraturi plays Underdark as often as not in the big tournaments, and he plays it well. It figures that he was able to come up with this Heavy Helmed Horror design. Ira and I think he will see a lot more play with the Foulspawn Seer, because this guy is a slow, but he is definitely a tank.

In technical design terms, he is a 'soldier' with no defined controller features or stand off ranged attack. I say defined controller features because of his resilient at ranged ability. If you want to kill this guy in timely fashion, you want to get close to him, so he applies a controller type of pressure, but its not enforced, like an immobilizing attack. And he doesn't mind one bit if you get close. He does top notch damage for a soldier, but its because he may not be able to attack as frequently as other soldiers. He's lost his flight ability, and he is slow, but there is no arguing that it takes a lot to bring him down.

Interesting figure. I especially like the resilient at range mechanic. If a beholder manages to disintegrate from 8 squares away, would the ongoing do 10 or 15 dmg? Highly unlikely to ever happen of course, but it was the first creature I could find with more than 10 ongoing damage and the necessary range.

I like it very much - especially the alliteration Smile
Very durable so that even with Speed 4 worth playing.

The resist all 10 is only vs. attacks. Not conditions. Or conditions imposed by attacks.

A nice one there - I can already see some mileage with a particular figure to support it... maybe for the EU/World Champs Smile

At the moment the attack resolves, the HHH has resist 10 all. If the attack does 10 or less ongoing damage, the ongoing damage won't be applied at all, per the current rules with ongoing damage vs. resist. If the attack does 15 or more ongoing damage, the whole thing is applied (and the resist protects when the damage is taken). So in the disintegrate case, ongoing 20 damage is applied. At the start of the HHH's turn, it resolves the 20 damage, has resist 5 all at the moment, and takes 15 damage.

We should probably alter text on official release of this mini.
"...Resist All 10 vs. damage caused by that attack." That would make it absolutely clear and derivable to all who read it.

Given the rules about ongoing damage and attacks, I think players can theoretically already derive the correct conclusion from the current text. Of course, I support asking questions and adding FAQ entries as needed.

Changing the power to "damaged caused by that attack" won't necessarily help in my opinion, since some players will still think that the ongoing damage is "caused by that attack."

I doubt it. We've clarified many times that damage-causing conditions are not damage.
But you are right in that the only difference is whether he ignores ongoing 10 or not, so leaving it as is just makes him that much better.

Interesting piece. The very definition of a 'brick'. Really hammers opposing bands with lots of closest ranged attacks. Is there anything that can boost his speed in faction? no push, pull slide ...
