DDM Administration: Secrets Leaked.

There is an ongoing investigation within the DDM guild to determine the source of recent leaks of information. It has been suggested that certain groups of Highwayman and Raiders have direct ties to high level Drow agents. At least, several of their stock cards have been seen next to each other on the same page. Follow the breaking story here.

The document, which was allegedly leaked from sources inside the DDM, can be found HERE. It shows a new and radical direction that the leaders of our guild may be headed in, and may be a concern for players. Experts who were consulted pointed out that the information leaked here is all little stuff, and that there were almost certainly bigger things to be revealed.

When asked about the source of the leaks, Moraturi pointed out that there were no leaks, and that there were no executions within the guild this week. David Balder, the silent one, said nothing. Ira neither confirmed nor denied rumors. Good execution is a part of good development, he noted. He also pointed out the policy of Tried, the current tyrant overlord of the guild, was to brutally admonish those associated with administrator leaks.

Tried stands by his original position that this set will be 'Yuge.'

It is the best guess of journalism that many may have made great sacrifices to bring us this document. It serves as a warning of current dangerous directions that DDM is headed in.

EDIT: Despite requests, it is unlikely that any more will be leaked, barring some accident

EDIT: For the last time - I am telling you that there will be no further leaks .

Thank you, mighty tyrant overlord. Only one page, but very nice surprises. Especialy scarecrow - very useable for my demons or constructs. Big smile

Nice!

Bandits are cool for low-cost warbands. Scarecrow is nice and flavorful. Yochlol now a champion... Cool option!

Iam little confused about Thri-Kreen Protectors burst. If nonadjacent creatures have roll +10 and 11-30 is 5 poison and immobilized, why iam must throw 1d20? all throws is still 11-30. And, can I use lower effect as lich beholder?

No.

You are correct in your analysis, though. if you use Reach, then you *only* get the last effect as a possibility.
This is by design - closer creatures can be bitten and clawed, too, while further creatures are only attacked with the polearm.

Great designs!

It may be one of the hardest cost-groups to put a support hitter in, but I really like what has been done with the Kenku Wingman (18) here. Just the right amount of powers persuading you to make it a flanker/facilitator for bigger hitters.

First 3-faction creature ever. Smile

Looking good all around. Will have to digest with time later, but I like the sense of playable huges across the board, starting with speed 8 and improved movement powers. This will be a fantastic set to play.

Damage vs Big targets? Should be Large targets?

And my minis have numbers like 29A/45, cards are /44.

True, but the numbering seems to align with the actual number of (different) minis though. There's 44 of them despite the 45 in the bottom.

Oh man, I cannot wait to get these on the map for test runs... Smile

FriendlyAlienist, I do not know if Big is defined in the rules, but I believe it refers to Large or larger creatures.

Searching the rules will pull up several incidences of the use of Big.

(A creature that occupies more than one square).
(I knew it was going to be confusing, because I've not used it before).

The next rules will make it even clearer, though.
But don't be afraid. Embrace the darkness.

These titan stats look pretty good. I can imagine how difficult it is to stat and cost a high-point creature, trying to make it competitive without being broken. These look very playable.

Are these final versions of the stats? If not, one thing I was thinking was that the two cloud Giants and the two frost Giants are very similar. I understand that they are just two versions of essentially the same creature, but it might be more fun if they did wildly different things.

I appreciate the time and effort that the Guild puts into the game.

Thanks a lot for the great work and the very interesting new cards!

Wow. The second leak brings giants with really massive damage output.

Frost Giant Slayer: for 88 Points he will do 80 damage in one round. Then 30 damage per round. AC 28, 110 Hp is very durable.

Fire Giant Duke: three rounds with about 70-150 damage in each round (depending on the number of enemies within reach of Firestone and the first CP). AC and HP are very good.

Definitely an new power level for Titans. I am not sure whether the level is just right or too high.

It's a balancing act between 200 and 500.

Playable titans in 200 might tear up the epic. I like the idea of playable titans in 200, though. Despite all their hustle in 500, I'm not sure the currently most powerful "around-100-titans" have enough in 200. These SKT guys definitely feel like an upgrade.

If epic goes "broken", I'm sure it's nothing a few items (for example) won't fix. I'd be happy if we get even more diverse 200. Who doesn't like giants that feel like GIANTS?
Smile Just my opinion.

What to say about these comments.

Why are some really similar in stats?
its exactly because they look very similar. If you've played against one before, I want you to have a very good idea of what the second, similar looking one has for movement and defenses.

Will these break epic?
Yeah, maybe, but in my opinion they all have weaknesses that can be exploited. The HP of the clouds is awesome but the AC is terrible. Is the damage level too high? The answer there is again, maybe. but without it, you'll never see them played.

Remember that on many maps, huges are facing -5 'while squeezing' penalty, and can also be easily blocked by correct positioning.

In the end, I'm predicting that they become relatively common in 200 arena, but rare in the standard 200.

Thanks tried, good points.

We were lucky to be able to arrange a long DDM night and try some of these. We did a draft I had set up and played both an assault game (200/8) and an epic arena 2 vs. 2 battle with several of the new giants. I have to say it was very exciting and indeed, there are weaknesses in all of the giants as well as strong points. Their movement is generally great (it's a must, too, to get play) and ability to place a lot of damage somewhere in a single turn very good. Still, it was close, even in a limited 200/8 environment, that the titans didn't go down. As is well known, in epic, AC's from 26 to 31 do not hold up at all in melee, barring terrible rolls from the opponent (which happened a lot in this case, leaving for example a Cloud Giant with healing allies in full 180 HP). 2-3 games is not an extensive test by any means, but it was interesting, and as I said, very exciting! New level for melee titans. Looking forward to playing more.
Smile

On the comment of similar stats: I really like the fact that they're similar, yet not 100% same. What tried explained happened for us in terms of getting the idea of cloud giants' and frost giants' abilities quickly.

On the matter of similar or diffent stats for similar figures, there are ways to consider either to be fun, in my humble opinion. Different stats for similar figures are cool, if for example you look at it from the mook and boss standpoint. Similar stats for similar figures are cool also, if you look at it rather from the standpoint of having two creatures that have similar ractial traits and are trained similarly, but are subtly different as different individuals would be. Both tell interesting stories, and we certainly have good examples of both kinds of combos in DDM with its great diversity.

I've said it before, and I'll repeat it: the stats that have come ou in the recent sets are the best I've seen. Not that the previous ones were bad, but for one thing the recent sets build on the history of the game in a constructive way, which requires a history to accomplish Smile ; and additionally, the desginers continue to add some new mecanics, or use old ones in evocative combinations, to tell new stories with the new creatures, in a way that is both inventive while remaining respectful of the game's history.

I'm looking forward to seeing this new set when it comes out!

Agree with the above comments. The recent sets have had some really good stats in terms of both creativity and playability.

It's good to hear that these new Giants are playable. Kinda scary that one was at full HP at the end of the battle though - even with bad rolls.

Do not be alarmed, Thenameless! Smile Just one multiplayer game on a self-made map and with two-faction warband building rules... weird things happen in those games. Maybe after 5+ standard format matches I'll start forming an opinion.

How do you go about making your own maps, out of curiosity?

plastic finn's picture
Member since:

Skyscraper, four methods: 1) Dundjinni (did a dozen of huge maps, some 2-piece, when it still was operational many years ago), 2) Photoshop (tends to crash the computer in the latter parts of the multi-layer work), 3) hardboard (good for outside use, too) and 4) insulation board (can stick trees and stuff on it)

Most of them for RPG use as much as DDM. No time lately, though, more important things at hand. I always go big, so they do take time. I have a project with two hardboard pieces that work as very large single maps and can form four different combinations to create a really big one as well. But it's a year-long (at least) 10th tier project, it seems at the moment

More of a crafter's corner post, sorry folks! If I ever will take pictures of them all (no promises), I'll post there.
Smile
I forgot to mention on Storm King's Thunder: Was fun building a 100-pt kenku warband. 200-pointer should work as well. Thri-kreen is up next, when the time comes. This is one thing I like in getting two of the same sculpt; more options for synergy (even if just thematical in some instances) within a set.

Is that the first blast 1 close attack of the game? Smile

The toad is not uninteresting, for its cost. Nice attack bonus, with conditions. I'll probably try this guy out. His speed 5 will be tough however.

Cazi appears like a good archer. For 31 points, in an elf or unique warband, he'll be able to shoot for 30+, and reliably at a very high attack bonus.

The sprites are cool. Nice staying power. Very low attack bonus might not get them to see play, unless there is a good Fey champion coming; but on the other hand a 6-point figure that confuses (save ends) is a pretty strong effect, if it lands.

Cool stuff!

I have a question for the designers. I know that "bloodied" has changed from the almost-arbitrary half value, but I did notice that Crag Ungart becomes bloodied at 45 instead of 40 HP (when starting with 85). Was this intentional? Thanks.

Very nice, many interesting new abilities, which also tell a story.

Intellect Devourer: just the right power level to be competetive.

Sprite Swashbuckler: in my opinion the attack bonus it too low for 11 pts.

Homunculus: great boost for Mages of all factions!

Cazi: making her an elf opens the way for nice combinations, "twin unique" makes her even better.

Crag: misses the word "WILL", very solid beater and ini winner, not as good as a Human Fighter Lord [but maybe HFL will get a restat..?]

Toad: absolutely worth its cost!

Well,

its possible that someone leaked a poor file. but at least you get the gist of what's coming.

Note that the 11 point sprite is a bargain if used with any other creature that causes confusion save ends.

For what it's worth, I'll continue on the matter I left open earlier:
As far as my initial worry of Cloud Giants (and their HP) in epic go, the AC 26 indeed gets hit all the time, so it may be just right for 200 AND in epic, because of placing problems the use of multiple huges brings. Even so with their great movement help/options, which was maybe the only thing that was a bit surprising to witness firsthand. It's a lot different to not suffering the squeezing penalties as a huge (as with D.A.). I have not had too much time to play, but from what I've seen, this all seems very good. Very interesting low-cost figures as well, and the thri-kreen are great. Looking forward to the full set!
