Call for Qualifiers & National Championships!

As you’ve seen from our D&D XP presentation, the DDM Guild will attend GenCon Indy between the 5th and 8th of August 2010, and will host the 2010 Constructed Championships there. If you plan to attend, as we hope you are, you are probably already wondering… How will qualification for the biggest DDM event of the year work?

Just like last year, the DDM Guild will allow chapters to organize local qualifiers. We hope that this years’ qualifier season will be even more exciting than usual. Not only will we have US and Canadian qualifiers for the World Championships, but European Chapter Masters are invited to organize National Championships that feed into the European Championship on June 26th and 27th in the Netherlands! Of course, Chapters in other countries are allowed to organize their National Constructed Championships too. Any National championship attended by at least 6 players will also be honored as a qualifier for the Championships at GenCon.

This year, the number of players that receive byes, and the number of byes those players receive are determined by the number of players the qualifier attracts. European chapters have the benefit that byes won at their National Championships (or qualifiers) can be used at the European Championships! You will find more information in the 2010 Qualifier Fact Sheet.

To hold these qualifiers, the DDM Guild is calling for applications from Guild Chapters and local stores to host a 2010 D&D Miniatures Constructed Championships Qualifier Tournament (or, for chapters of other nationalities) a National Constructed Championship. Email us with your application by March 26, 2010. In your email, please answer the following questions:

At what location will the tournament be held, and why is your location perfect for a qualifier or National Championship?

For example: is it at a gaming convention? Is there a large local DDM Guild presence? Is it central to several DDM Guild Chapters? From what areas do you expect to draw players for the tournament? Is the location large enough to accomodate the expected number of players?

When will the tournament be held?

All qualifiers and National Championships should take place between May 1st and June 20th, 2010.

What local support will be devoted to the tournament?

Think about what prizes can be provided, what other fun activities or plans are in place to optimize the experience of attending a qualifier, will there be any giveaways. How will the qualifier be advertised? On web forums? Store website? What will registration cost? Will this be able to cover prize support? If not, do you have a sponsor?

Applications will be reviewed by Organized Play and hosts will be notified by Tuesday, March 30th, 2010. The number of qualifiers is not set yet. Of course, you will have a better chance of hosting a qualifier if you work together with neighbouring chapters!
